The Central Coast Alliance for Health won a coveted bronze certificate from the state for its performance in 2005 providing Medi-Cal services to low-income residents in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.

"The alliance is truly making a difference in the health outcomes of the members of our community," said Dr. Barbara Palla, medical director for the nonprofit health plan.

The alliance was developed in 1996 to improve access to health care for people who relied on hospital emergency rooms. It links 85,000 members to physicians and clinics that provide primary care, and arranges referrals to specialists.

For the past three years, the alliance has received a quality award ranking as one of the top three health plans in the state.
